Tips To Make The Most Of Daylight Saving Time

Tips To Make The Most Of Daylight Saving Time

Spring signals the transition into warmer weather; a time to get more active, clear out the clutter and revamp those wardrobes. Best of all, for parts of Australia it's also time to "spring forward" and enjoy an hour of extra daylight each day thanks to daylight saving time.  As we know, time is precious and there is so much that can be done with an extra hour of daylight, so read on for our top tips to make the most of daylight saving time:

Exercise Your Options

If you're not a fan of rolling out of bed at the crack of dawn to exercise, then switch to the afternoon or early evening.  Get outside in the fresh air for your daily dose of sunshine and vitamin D and stretch those legs; an evening walk around the neighbourhood or a stroll along the beach is perfect at this time of year.  You could even get social and join a local sports club for a weekly game of team sports.

Get Cooking

With the sun setting later, we often find ourselves eating later as well.  So why not take advantage of this shift in culinary timezone by getting your cook on? With a more relaxed afternoon and evening schedule you can try out those recipes that take a little longer to prepare. Alternatively, use that extra hour to meal prep and get some extra meals cooked that can be stored in the freezer to grab on the go during busier times.

Spring Clean Your Home

As we emerge from the depths of winter, it pays to take a look around the home - both inside and out - to identify any areas that require maintenance or just a good old fashioned spring clean.  Tackle all of those jobs that you put off during winter, such as: cleaning the windows, clearing out the gutters, garden maintenance and getting those alfresco dining areas ready for summer entertaining.  By using that extra hour of daylight and gradually working through those spring cleaning tasks, you'll have your home whipped into shape within a week or two, leaving plenty of days to use your daylight saving hour in other ways.

Get Your Hustle On

If you've been thinking about starting a new business or project, it's time to get productive and dedicate that extra hour of daylight to your side hustle. Life is busy and it can be difficult to find the time to start that blog, write that book or develop that business plan, but by dedicating an hour a day you'll soon be on your way to turning that side hustle into your main hustle.

Hop On A Hobby

We all need a hobby or three to keep us sane.  If you've always wanted to try something new, follow your heart and kick start that hobby during your daylight saving hour.  Join a class, learn a second language, play the piano, take up dancing; having a hobby helps to keep our minds active and interested in life and learning, and you may actually find that you become more productive in other areas of your life, too!

Family Time Is The Best Time

Carve out some quality time to spend with family during your additional hour of daylight.  It can be easy to get caught up in the stresses of modern life and get stuck in a rut as far as family life is concerned.  Instead, plan some activities that can bring you together and make that extra hour of daylight, a worthwhile one.  Couples can get creative and schedule in some date nights to take advantage of the warmer weather and that extra daylight hour.
